I have one in the ground here in Orlando, it is in it's second year. we had several a few years ago but they died back after 27F and only one returned. It was weak and died later that summer. They seem very tender to cold.
Try P. x wilsonii. It is a hybrid of P. giganteum and P. radiatum. The leaves are huge and looks similar to P. x evansii. This one is one of the hardier climbing Philodendrons.

Also do you know how hardy P. gloriosum are...do you have any in the Orlando area?

We have one outside here at Leu Gardens. It was just planted this summer. So far the coldest we have had is 36F. It is in a shady, very wind protected location under a large Quercus virginiana.

Thanks again for the info...Back in early fall I had an post about Anthuriums...I told I would let you know how they did during the winter...

The A. faustinomirandae so far is doing great, no damage at all...its in a protected spot where no frost settles...but the temperature dropped to the mid 20's for a short while...

The other Anthurium, the one from HD, its been outside for two winters now and it got leaf burn on 50% of its leaves...the other 50% of the leaves were ok....I found the tag and its labled Anthurium "Lazarz" from Rancho Soledad Nurseries in Calif....I know they ship alot from their Hawaiian nursery.... I thinks its a hybred...

The bird nest anthuriums were undamaged as well..so A. faustinomirandae might be as hardy as the bird nest anthurium....I left out one flamingo type anthurium and it did NOT make it, turned to mush..this type has never overwintered outside for me.........

The hybrid Anthuriums with the showy flowers (A. andraeanum types)are really variable in cold tolerance. Some will melt below 45F others have made it into the low 30's. Interestingly enough, one hybrid that seems more cold tolerant is 'Arizona'. There is a line of hybrids from the Netherlands named after US states and he have grown several of these. 'Nevada' also has grown well.

We also got an Anthurium called 'Lazarz' from a south FL grower, its a large bird nest type.This will be it's 2nd winter outdoors. Another Anthurim we have grown for years outside is A. watermaliense, the Black Anthurium. It has been down to 27F with just some leaf burn though it is in a shady, wind-protected location so it probably a few degrees warmer. We have quite a few Anthuriums out for trial. We had some donated that were wild collected from Ecuador and Venezuela but unidendtified. These froze down after the 27F freeze but most grew back from the roots.
