Spreading the word

I have a very nice garden-shop owner. He has been in business for 50 years he is very knowledgable, and he gives me the same careful attention as he gives someone who buys $300 worth of flowers.

So a couple of months ago I went to him for some soil, and I was telling him about WS'ing. He poo-poo'ed it. That's impossible he said. I said nothing.

Yesterday I was there - more soil - and telling him about my Red Salvia which were coming up. He said, you know, I've never had Red Salvia.

Bingo!

As soon as they grow up to be the beauties they will be, I will bring him a couple, and tell him how they were sown in January, and sat outside all winter!

That is so smart. He will probably have to see to believe.

ellenr - Nothing says juggin' like Yvonne's salvia. A potential convert nibbling on the hook!

Maybe when you take him those plants, you might present them in a nice milk jug (or 3...). ;-D

My parents started seeing the jugs in my driveway right after Christmas. My dad was all like, "That ain't gonna work. You can't plant seeds in the winter and have them grow." Last weekend they were here and I showed him the containers. He's finally thinking of sowing tomatoes this year rather than buying plants. He wants to direct sow and use the tops from the two liters to warm the soil. Zone 8.

I really have been trying to inspire my Dad to try ws'ing! I have sprouts, but since this is my first year I'm still afraid that something will happen and they will croak. *fingers crossed* I would love to be able to share plants with him to inspire him to try it.

I have been talking to my friend about gardening for years. This year she wanted to try and start seeds inside. I brought her a jug of maters and a jug of marigolds over the week-end, leaving them with her husband. I haven't seen her since, but I bet she trys it with something else... at least I hope so!
