Yes, they can go dormant and wake back up ... eventually. If you're really worried, you might try poking your finger into the soil to see if things are mushy down there. Try searching Aroid-L archives - I've included a link to one relevant thread.

Thank you for the info balberth. I dug the plant up and I found a somewhat large round "bulb" that was definitely alive. I planted it in new soil and have high hopes for it this spring.
