amorpho's:Pinch back the offsets?

I read somewhere that many varieties of amorphophallus will grow larger tubers if the offsets are removed right away. It seems that the 'unpruned' tubers may have increased biomass divided among several seperate tubers/offsets, while the 'pruned' ones reach blooming size much faster.

Has anyone heard about this, or had personal experience with this practice? The article I saw discussed Konjac in specific as benefitting from this.

Thanks!
