Dropping rhododendron - advice please

Our stunning rhododendron has been in full bloom and on Sunday was gorgeous. On Monday morning it had completely sagged, petals all over the ground and looked as if someone had attacked it - see photo. Please can someone advise what may have happened? I can I restore it? It has never done this before.
