Depending where you inquire, Sky Pencil Holly is rated Z5 (nurseries) or 6 (www.mobot.org).

Sky Pencil Holly is a form of Ilex crenata, Japanese holly.

Mulch it well to protect the roots from cold snaps. The roots will be winterkilled when temperatures drop much below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

They are best in full sun or light to moderate shade. Arkansas extension says that Japanese hollies are best in USDA zones 7 through 9.

The Vermont extension says Sky Pencil Holly is hardy in zones 5b and 6a. So I would give it a try and be sure to make sure it has a good mulch layer before next winter to keep those roots at a stable temperature.

One great attribute, it is supposed to be deer resistant.
