Looks like standard Colocasia esculenta (sp.) to me. Yep, once you dig them up in the fall there will be a small stalk attached to the new tuber. Have fun :o) Dan

Do you just break the new tuber off by hand, or do you cut them? I have some canna. I just break off the tubers by hand, and they handle all my abuse, will EE take the same abuse, or are they more delicate?

The top photo doesn't look like regular Colocasia esculenta to me. The leaves are too ruffled. Is it C. esculenta 'Ruffles'? The bottom photo definitely is regular EE. These are 2 different plants, aren't they?

Maybe Dan will show up again and clue us both in to dividing the tubers.

Hi Susan, Well, Colocasia/Alocasia/Xanthosoma is not my thing, but all I do is just break the long rhizome off before the new swelling that is the tuber that will produce the plant on these Colocasia. They can take serious abuse or they would not still be at my house as these just get dug and tossed come fall :o) Dan

Susan, I bought a pack of 4 EE at Lowes. I gave one away. The plants pictured are different, but I assummed they were the same kind. Know that I look the one is different! The bottom pic with the baby plants just exploded with growth. It is twice as big as the other two. It's in a newer bed on the south side of the house. The bed was topped with about 4-6 inches of compost. I just thought the compost and extra sun made it bigger, I never thought it would be a different plant!
As for dividing, I will wait until fall and see what it looks like! Thanks to all for the help!
