I have grown chard before. I sow the seeds just below the surface about twice as deep as the size of the seed itself. Mine are sprouting in my jugs already, so you will probably have good results too. Good luck!

Hi Maureen -- I WS'd some Swiss chard ("Fordhook Giant" from Botanical Interests) just last week; the packet called for 1/2 inch depth.

My packet of chard said to soak in warm water for an hour before planting. I just direct sowed my chard, lettuce, and spinach, so fingers crossed!!! This will be my first chard experiment.
