or ZZ Eternity Plant. I received one for my birthday a year ago. It's pretty much done nothing. Does anyone else have one? Am I not watering enough/too much?
You had me curious, Bonbon - so I read up about it on the net. Apparently, this is a verrrry slowwwww growing plant. At maturity it is supposed to be about 20" tall. It is an aroid, but you can propagate it like a Jade Plant, by putting the bottom side of a leaf in a prop mix and it will grow new plants.
Hi Susan, Wow, I googled it, guess I didn't search far enough. I just see them at the stores all thick and taller, thought maybe I was doing something wrong. I'm really a very patient person, but gee a whole year and no noticable growth. Well, goodness, I do have LOTS of other things growing prolifically to watch. Hey thanks for the help. Going to bbbulbs to place an amaryllis order.... (hold her back!)
I never have very good luck with amaryllis - no place to really put it indoors. I have a couple outdoors in the ground, but I need to move them, because they're in too much shade. Wow! Do they have gorgeous blooms, though.
Hey, maybe if you start propagating a few of your ZZ's, they'll be faster growing that your original!
I;m suprised that you haven't noticed appreciable growth in a year's time - mine more than doubled in that time when they were fairly small (about 1' tall).
I have found that people keep these in dark places - they have a reputation for not needing a lot of light - but mine has been in bright light since I got it as a leaf cutting three years ago, and is now flowering size. It has a big corm, it puts out a new leaf every month or two, and it is a great plant. I started the leaf cutting in a 4" pot - it took almost 4 months to show any top growth at all, and it is now in a 2 gallon pot, and it is tight. It has just finished flowering for the first time, and it is sending up three leaves at once now.
I'd say that you should check the amount of light you are giving the plant, and treat it better if you want it to grow.
I'm sure you're right. Most plants that need shade outdoors, will do well in sun indoors, now that I think of it. I just bought a syngonium at the grocery store, and since I KNOW it's not a hardy plant, I will grow it indoors under my flourescent light set up. It's the one with the frosted white foliage, which I thought was very pretty.
