Without knowing which variety of rhododendron you have, it's impossible to say for sure, but many, many varieties bloom in mid to late may. Be patient.

Here in PA most rhododendrons bloom in mid to late May. I would expect yours to bloom later. The reason most rhododendrons seem to have already bloomed is that they are the very hardy small leaved PJMs which bloom very early. What you have may be a large leaved rhododendron that isn't going to bloom for another couple weeks.

PJM buds are very winter hardy, but they bloom so early that late frosts kill the flowers. So they aren't the best solution. It may be better to just wait.

Yep, it's large leaved. The variety is Catawba or something like that, the only variety found locally in this town as rhodys don't flourish well here. My neighbor does indeed have a small leaf variety but I'm sure the other one I saw had large leaves. It was misleading to say all the rhodys have bloomed around here. There aren't many to compare hence my lack of knowledge. I will keep waiting. Thanks.
