Is it the "full overlay" style that you feel looks "low end"?
Based on what you're saying, I get the feeling that you might prefer the look of "full-inset" over full-overlay.
Bear in mind however that this is often a more expensive option.
BUT ... "If you go with something you dislike to save money, you will always remember how much money you saved. If you buy something you love & you have to spend a little more, you will never look back."
That's my quote. And it's true ;-)

All cabinet manufacturers are transparent with the construction of their "boxes", which is really all that a cabinet is. A box with a door or a drawer.
Soft close features can be used on any cabinet, but to truly compare quality,
find out:
1. what the boxes are constructed of (plywood, particleboard, MDF etc)
2. how are the boxes joined (dovetail, glue, staples etc)
3. what is the thickness of the sides, bottom & back
4. are the doors solid wood or solid wood with a laminate, veneer
5. what type of glides are used on the drawers & doors (Blum, Grass)
6. what is the finish on the interior of the box
7. are the cabinets frameless or framed

I think you get the picture.
Ask more questions, get more answers, do solid research & THEN fall in love with a style & color that makes you happy to live with on a daily basis.

Can you afford to have a small company or an independent cabinet maker custom make your cabinets? In our area, we have many fabulous cabinet makers who end up being same price or less than a big or box store company. You also will have the ability to determine your finishes etc. to get the look you really want.

but what are the ideal answers to your above questions so I know what I am looking for...(referring to LM Designs post) thanks!

The #1 question is, what is your budget. It does no good to go shopping for a Bentley when all you can afford is a budget Chevy.
