Mums

I ran across Mums at drastically reduced prices this year and have bought too many. I deadheaded the blossoms and they are still blooming like crazy in pots. Here's my dilemma-If I plant them all now, I won't have room in my gardens for my annuals in the spring.

1. Can I bring them inside for the winter, then decide where to place them in the spring? The reason I'm asking is because an Impatiens plant accidentally made its way inside and is strong, healthy, and blooming. Made we wonder about the Mums.

2. I was recently told that Mums can be separated in the spring. Is this true? I sink my pots in the ground so that they don't "travel" so far, but would love to be able to separate those colors that I don't have as many-to even out the color balance.

PS-I do mulch heavily in the fall, and prune drastically twice before the 4th of July. They come back beautifully and compact each year. Sometimes I cut them back at the end of the season, sometimes I don't; that doesn't seem to matter.
