composting straw

First I would like to thank everyone for their advice. Second I have placed around 2 to three bales of straw in my pile. It had aged some. My wife mulches the floor of her chicken house with straw. So I gather that and compost it. The other straw were just decorative bales of straw that we had for thanksgiving decoration. It had aged for a month or so in the elemants before going in the pile. Again the pile is big like 4ft high, four ft deep, and ten feet long. I Just think that if i keep turning it and taking the decomposed material and mixing it with the straw it will start breaking down. But yes next time Im chopping it up a bit. I have wanted a chipper/mulcher for a long time. After waiting around and doing all my research IM leaning on getting one of those 3 in 1 vaccum push mowers. Troy-bilt makes one. It sucks the leaves through the mulching blades then bags them. It also has a slot to mulch items like corn stalks. My hope is to have good compost by April. IM very persistent, and turning is no problem for me. thanks again, brandon
