I can sympathize with your experience. I recently purchased diatomacious earth as a "bargain" marked for pool filter use. Now I find out there is a horticultural grade of it, and that the ones for pool use may cause silicosis, plus have acids added.

You could also try Google; would probably be easier to use.

Honestly, I would not use a sealant and no pressure treated lumber. My view is this: I just built 4 4' x 8' raised beds with plain old kiln dried 4 x 6 stock. My guess, based on past performance, id that they will last 6 or 7 years. I figure that is a pretty good yearly cost. I spent $103. Divide that by 4 beds and divide that by 7 years per bed, that's $2 a year cost if I replace those beds after 7 years ... which I doubt I will do. Worthwhile investment. And organic. I wouldn't worry about having raised bed timbers last forever.

First, I would read up on the sealer you used to be sure it would be toxic. If it is, I would clear the dirt away from the walls of the boards, piling it into the center, line the boards with heavy plastic, then pull the dirt back to hold it in place. It should not be very contaminated if it has rested against the boards just a few days. You could also put the dirt that rested against the boards into your flower beds and use the leftover dirt to fill in the gaps instead of making a new bed. Hope you find a good solution!

I was able to touch base with the Chemical Expert at Green Acres Nursery where I purchased the Cedar Beds from. She advised me that what I did was fine. The reason is that this particular product is absorbed by the wood itself. I am so happy that my family and I will not be eating tainted veggies! Happy planting!
