I would call them immediately.

Ask them to please replace this diseased, half-dead thing with a healthy plant. Offer to send them a photo, if necessary.

OR ask for your money back.

I agree with Jeri but they probably won't want that plant back anyway. I would go ahead and pot it up and see if it will grow in the mean time. If the roots are healthy it may just take off and surprise you. You never know!

You ordered a BAREROOT rose from DUTCH GARDENS and it arrived today, August 21st?

Since no one has yet stated the obvious here, I feel that it's important for someone to point out that NO reputable dealer ships a bareroot rose this late in the season. (Am I the only one who thinks that shipping bareroots ANYwhere ANYtime after May is way too late?)

By all means call this Dutch Gardens outfit and demand your money back. As for potting it up and seeing what happens, well . . . good luck with that. One can learn even from lessons in futility.

They're in Illinois and they state they even check the weather before shipping so the plant is safe. THEY think, from what their site says, this IS the proper planting time for your area. I'm scared!

At least they offer a free replacement guaranty. Write or call them NOW and hold them accountable for shipping you a bareroot when it's the wrong planting time for pretty much everywhere in the Northern Hemisphere. Kim

I totally agree with Jeri. It is way too late in the season to ship bareroots, they have had those plants since last winter. I don't know of many people who order roses from Dutch Gardens. Most of the vendors stop taking orders in May, and stop shipping in June (many stop shipping even earlier).

In zone 7 you should order bare roots for delivery in March--or potted roses in late April.

I think you got last autumn's leftovers. Wait for fresh stock--it makes a huge difference.
