I personally prefer CI but for color I think ML is the truer red. CI does tend to pink out somewhat. If you want something that's really fire engine red look at Veterans' Honor! It last for ages both on and off the bush and even as it ages out it never goes pink at all.

Mr. Lincoln is the kind of rose flower you would admire on a magazine cover, perfect in every way.
The aroma is mildly strong, the red is dark perfect red, I would say that if I were only allowed one rose, this one would be at the top of the list.
It's an older hybrid tea, but a goodie, if not one of the best.
Just my opinion, but I think you better check it out online or in person.

How does Mr. Lincoln compare to Etoille de Hollande? I have to special order Mr. Lincoln here, and on hmf they look fairly similar. I also have Crimson Glory, is ML worth adding to the collection?

I have this perfect, fragrant red rose which came with the house we bought twenty years ago. Can anyone tell from the picture what it is?

I have had both. Mister Lincoln is red. Chrysler Imperial, in my garden is relatively short, never growing taller than 3'. The fragrance is outstanding on Chrysler Imperial; it is perfumery. It's red is mostly dark with a bit of purple intonation. However, very occasionally, such as this spring, we have had lots of rain this spring, it is lighter with light purplish pink intonations.

That said, if you want a better red, (even better than Mister Lincoln) Grand Amore, available through Palatine Roses, is the ultimate in reds. Floriferous. Upright. And, grows 7' tall if you let it, with no supporting trellis needed. It is scented, too.

If you want scarlet red, then Olympiad is what you want, but it has no discernible scent for me. Below: Olympiad kissing Molineux.
