in my experiences, no.
i have tried several and i could not get them through the first summer. they seem to die shorty after the temps hit the upper 80's or low 90's.

I have been able to "over-summer" a Fuchsia magellanica hybrid(sorry, the nursery I bought it from only called it "heat tolerant fuchsia"). Apparently F.m. and hybrids will tolerate a lot of abuse as far as heat and humidity are concerned but the blooms aren't the huge showy ones, same shape in a smaller package or something. They get kind of cranky by the end of summer and drop a lot of their leaves and some of the stems die back. Still, it's great to me that it didn't just up and die in June, you know?

I'm definitely going to have to look for the heat tolerant variety. I've killed two (apparently NON-heat tolerant) already. Poor babies. Anybody have any idea who might sell the heat tolerant variety in or around the Birmingham area. I'm willing to drive a little ways, but and hour or so would probably be my limit - unless it's a really kewl nursery. Anybody got any of those in their area? My favorite is Petals From the Past in Jemison.

I ordered 2 fuschias from one of the Dutch bulb companys last year. 1 of them bloomed beautifully all summer,but died over the winter, the other one died in about 2 months. I hated it as I love them so much. I planted them close to the house on the east side.
