I'm glad it's doing so well for you, Ken. I got it the first year it came out. It did well the first year but subsequently grew backwards. It did not like my winters and I lost it last spring. The bloom is gorgeous though!

It should be OK here with my winter protection. I haven't lost any HT's to winter. I look at the roses' parents and go from there.

Got to agree with you Ken. It's a real beauty and distinctly fragrant for me. Unfortunately it is winter tender here and the last two winters, which were colder then normal, set it way back. This year it's barely reached 3 feet tall. Granted, this summer didn't do it any favors with all this 100+ heat, but still, as Seil said, it's growing backwards for me too. I definitely would recommend this rose to anyone who has stable winter patterns in zone 7b or higher. You may have the secret with doing a good job of winter protection though in colder climates......Maryl

I agree that FiL is a beauty and that it prefers moderate to cool growing conditions (even tho it's often listed as a rose that performs well in heat). Anyone thinking of adding this rose, though, should be aware that it has super-ferocious prickles (and LOTS of 'em).

Second, the daggers!

Oh, she is WELL armed. But nothing compared to the HT Raspberry Swirl. Perfect blooms guarded by the most vicious thorns of ANY HT I have ever seen. I'm just very careful around Falling in Love. I just hope with my winter protection she will grow well for me. We'll see.
