Unexpected rose self rooting

I moved a few roses around two weeks ago and came across some odd rose self rooting that I have not encountered before.

I first dug up my grafted Love. It has been with me for two seasons and is about four feet tall and always healthy. It has been moved through three gardens so far with no ill effects. When I dug it up this time it felt like one of the scions was separating from the rest of the graft. I tugged on it slightly and it came apart with roots on it. It still had a ball like area that looked to me like a graft but I am unsure whether it is possible for a graft to fall apart? I planted the second Love and it seems to be doing just fine along with the mother plant.

Another rose I moved was a Toscana Vigorosa I had received own root from RU earlier this summer. I was moving it from a temporary bed to its permanent location. I must have accidently buried one of its stems because when I dug it up, one of the stems had rooted itself in a short few weeks. I cut the end of the stem at the point it was connected to the mother plant and planted it separately. I was a little afraid such small roots wouldn't support a long fully leafed stem but so far so good.

I have never had it happen before, maybe this switch to an area with sandy acidic soil is what is doing it.

Anyone else experiencing unexpected self rooting?
