But all the roses I have look healthy near the end of this season so time to add... But moving slow to prevent problems like I had at the OLD house...

Carol, I think the warm climate definitely helps with bloom production! I have 3 Cappuccino in the one photo! One of them is typical color, one had no red edges and one was kind of ruffly. But all pretty!

Jeanne has several blooms about to open with Pink O’Hara and I’m daydreaming about that bouquet already.

Kentucky, I asked A&A and they said Maison Rouge will still be sold next year so we can wait. They said they’ll still have Inkandeszenz too so I am content to see what they come out with and do one big order! I’ve never grown Amore! Is it fragrant?

Jim, what roses are you thinking of trying? I can recommend Noack's Timeless/Showpiece series if they reach your shores this season. He bred the carpet rose range. They are fragrant with large blooms. My Timeless Purple/Showpiece Berry was without a shred of BS till late Autumn.

Windowsill, so good to hear from you. That haiku expresses my feelings and is a little depressing to think about, since it seemed we were talking about spring and summer just yesterday, and now winter is just ahead. Yet, tomorrow, our predicted high is 93F, and then down it crashes so that by Saturday the high will be just 71F. To distract from this gloom, I must later write a (n) haiku about Finn, the mighty Samurai warrior who caught a vole this afternoon and brought it back to us on the patio, then ate the whole thing, which I luckily couldn't see because some plants were blocking my view of the chow down. Then sated, Finn hid in one of the big flower beds because he knew we'd call him in for dinner after which he's not allowed outside. Tonight, was extra difficult bringing him in because who needs canned dinner when you have had pate de vole?

I wish I could be more charitable toward voles, but every time I think of my vole murdered Caramel Antike, charity flies out the window,.......Do you have any beautiful blooms to show us? How is Martha doing? Yours is such a beauty. You must be busy now. Did your mother make it back home safely? I hope you had a wonderful visit. Don't stay away. Diane

Just change one letter in that trade name (which sounds so Australian) and it expresses my feelings about voles and winter. I hope this expensive sounding thing works. Thanks about the Rudbeckias and you've inspired me to do a Rude Becky album........ You probably knew that Nellie Melba, the coloratura soprano, was Australian. The dessert, Peach Melba, was named for her. And now it's a rose, too. That woman led such an amazing life. Her stage name derived from Melbourne where she was born. windowsill, what a classy haiku. My small growing red abutilon arrived today. It's only 3-4" high but had a flower (fell off disentanging it) and still has some buds! I could have got one simolar to yours, but would have had to pay $40+ with shipping. BTW, I cannot get over how the bougainvillea has responeded to Osmocote Plus. It is smothered in buds - or bracts. I'll post a photo when they develop further. I was so astounded by OP's effect that I dosed all my established roses with it a month or so ago. Are you seeing any results?

I've ordered 2 more possum repellers as it seems to have worked. There was new growth this morning. Some are so denuded they may not survive. And I certainly won't be getting a Spring flush on quite a few. Fingers tightly crossed that the possums don't attack the roses in other beds. There are some lovely fat buds about to open.

Diane, those photos are amazing. Must be hard not to stab your babies with a beak like that.

Our night temps are going down to 1C/34F on Saturday. If it freezes and my dahlia stems turn brown, then I guess they'll go in the garage. You're finally going to get some great weather. I find 71F to be the perfect amount of heat. :) It's a good thing that Finn is such a good hunter. I've heard that female cats are better mousers, but Finn has it going on! :) Pate de vole. :) :) Yes, your Caramel Antike was too beautiful to meet such a fate. Gosh, those blooms are incredible!!! They're not Austins, are they? They look like they are. Diane, can I share those pictures with Holly? She'd love them. :) Utterly amazing photos!! ANUSCHKA ROSE, A Tantau

Another note on Anushka rose! I highly recommend she is one of my best roses this season, from A&A! I received her late July and with cool rainy weather in NY she still has grown double her size, not any BS, , and HUGE HUGE PLUMP BLOOM! SUPER STRONG BEST FRAGRANCE-lasts for several day-I keep smelling her daily! WOW! ! An award winner! I need a photo of her today. This photo is a few days ago but still looks the same in my cool weather, but even bigger.

Can’t wait to see Anuschka mature with many blooms! YUMMY!

Wildberry, a Tantau, is supposed to be similar to Anuschka, and with strong fragrance & excellent disease resistance, too! Another award winner! I am ordering Wildberry, too! Ordering from A&A ”Dormant Pot in Fall,” or ”Bud & Bloom potted in spring.

Pretty Cappuccino this morning:

One of my friends had surgery so I went and grabbed some filler flowers hoping my roses would cooperate—Peach Swirl and Chicago Peace ”rose” to the occasion for this sweet little arrangement. I wish I had some greenery but it’s cute anyway.

Trish, in the spring and early summer I have major rabbit problems. Hoping you get some Candlelight blooms. Would wire wrapped around the bushes help? It does with my rabbits. I can only wrap a few of the bushes.

Thanks for the kind words, all. It's not *technically* a haiku, since it has more than one stanza. It's FOUR haikus, I guess. It took all of three minutes to write. I've made a living writing song lyrics and having to rhyme every line, so only being limited by syllable count was actually freeing, lol.

Beautiful photos everyone. They're food for hungry eyes. I wish I had some to post. My garden is almost a total loss this year. I've become caregiver for not one, but two family members, and the garden has had to fend for itself. My lawn has only been mowed twice all year. I'm tired in ways I didn't know it was possible to be and still function. So if you have any mental energy left over, send it my way. Prayers are always welcome.

You are my friends and I thought I should explain my scarcity on the forums. It definitely has nothing to do with you good folk. I wish the best and send prayers for those of you going through your own troubles. We're stronger together. God bless.
