What a cute fence! And it will remind you of your grandfather too. My husband surrendered half of the garage to me so that I would have a place to work on my crafting besides all over the kitchen. So I moved all my stuff out there this w/e. But I did get a chance to weed and plant two little trees in this lovely weather. Seeing your fence has my wheels turning.

That's a really neat fence and with a heritage too :-) I enjoy family history research in addition to my gardening and birding hobbies. To me they are all tied together as certain flowers will remind me of my different ancestors. My paternal grandmother grew beautiful cannas, iris and Sweetpeas so each time I see those plants it reminds me of her. My parents live in my Grandmother's old home in TN. There is a rose bush growing there that has been in the family for longer than I have. Roses and Peonies always remind me of my Maternal Grandpa & StepGrandma's house.

I planted tomatos, corn, okra peppers and squash this weekend. Maybe a little early for the okra but we're having a very early spring this year.
First time my garden has dried out enough to do anything this spring, so I'm planting everything i can.

Got the corn in, planted a bunch of bananas around the pond, mowed the 3 acres. Did some fishing in the pond with the girls caught 4 5 -8 pound catfish had them for dinner Sunday. Relaxed after all was done!

Got caught up on lawn work Friday and on Saturday had a family cookout. Except for wind everything was nice. The guys went fishing but didn't catch anything. Was sorry all day Sunday did not even go to church.

Love the fence. Having it made for wood from your granddaddy makes it even nicer.

Had to work regular job half a day on Sat. - cleaned house in afternoon(bummer but was having company for dinner after church on Sunday) pulled a few weeds in late afternoon, cleaned out 2 very neglected, small beds and just enjoyed being outside. Finally have buds on snaps - spring is wonderful and I can't wait for things to bloom. I want to plant seed and have them grow overnight!! It is so exciting to find plants popping out of the ground. If I can just keep the cat from digging up all the seed!!

Last Friday was Sylvia's birthday. My present to her was a field trip to Myer's Nursery in Pelham and a day (together) of shopping for plants, etc. We went to Myers and bought some plants, including several clematis. We went down Hwy 280 east of Chelsea to a store in that area (next to Geo Stone) that sells concrete bird baths, etc., plants and junk. We picked up some nice begonias there. Stopped at a nice antique/junque/florist store on the way back (Hwy 280). To celebrate Sylvia's birthday, we ate at Copeland's on Saturday evening. Sunday, we went to Sylvia's mother's house for birthday lunch. I built a pseudo-Victorian arbor/garden gate. The musella lasiocarpa and the red Disco Belle hibiscus get so large they close off the walkway into the garden. The arbor should keep the walkway open. A similar PVC gate/arbor was almost $300 at one of the big-box stores. My cost was about $50. And in my spare time, I worked in the yard.

My Mom bought me an old german metal bathtub at an antique place several weeks ago. After rustproofing it some, I of course had to turn it into a big planter. This weekend I packed a hodge-podge mix of some stuff i stated from seed into it and other containers. Cleome, verbena bonarenesis (or something), phlox drummondii (or something like that),
some sun tolerant coleus, etc. Now I get to wait to see how badly I guessed in arranging and spacing them out. That's half the fun.

I mowed and mowed and mowed and mowed some more.... :)

I also worked on planting in the vegetable garden for the second weekend in a row. This week I planted squash, zucchini, various melons, and cucumbers. The previous weekend I planted out way too many tomato plants that I grew from seeds. A combo of heirlooms and hybrids.

This is my first year for a vegetable garden on this property, so it's been a lot of work hacking out the grass, working the ground, etc. I suppose I could have rented a tiller!

Wait a second, Terry... your wife likes plants, too?!?!? I thought that was an impossible combination - a husband and wife who BOTH like plant shopping!!!

At least my youngest daughter (age 5) appears to have a budding interest in plants. She likes to help me dig and also likes PALM TREES! I didn't know that an interest in palms was genetic - LOL.

We got together with our group (GEO CACHING CLUB) and cleaned up a park in Gulf Breeze, still remains of Ivan. Sunday we just sort of sat around and enjoyed the garden.

David, yes, Sylvia likes plants but she has a black thumb. She is a fantastic seamtress but I can't convince her that gardening (and cooking) requires the same attention to detail as does sewing. Arab_gal (do you pronounce that Air-rub or A-rab), I'll look into posting a picture of the arbor. I've had a digital camera since Christmas 2003 but I haven't had time to learn how to use it. I've got to learn how this year. I missed too many great pix last year.

Love the bathtub, last year when my wife took a trip with the kids I replaced the tile floor in one of the bathrooms, I also changed out the toilet and as a joke the day she came back I stuck it in the front flower bed, left the lid up and put a big daylilly plant in it. You should have seen her face and I can't repeat her comments on the new decoration! I should have gotten a picture to post here.
