Different clematis bloom at different times. Some will bloom early, like yours, and some varieties will not bloom until late in the summer and even the fall! So it really just depends on the variety of clematis you have.

I noticed that my clematis is blooming, too! It is supposed to be pink, but it's just as purple as it can be. What an unexpected surprise.

I need to tie it to the lattice so it will not grow toward the ground, which is what it is doing right now. What should I use to tie it? It's my first clematis, and it looks so fragile to me.

this one started to show color on monday of this week.
'blue ravine' is more lavender than blue, but i guess there is no true blue clematis.

Jeff: The "blue" clematis is lovely! What is the name of it? DH has built me another arbor in the back yard and I want to get two clematis' to grow on it, I would love to have that color. Did you get it here in AL or order it from a catalog?

Arab_gal: I take garden string or fishing line and knot it every 6" or so and string it from top to bottom of my trellis' and arbors - usually 5-6 rows on trellis' and 3-4 on my arbors, depending on size. This gives the clematis something to latch onto (especially the knots) and grow up. Of course, I help them when they are just starting up by helping them find the lines. LOL

the name is 'blue ravine', though i don't see it as blue.
i ordered it from somewhere (maybe park's but possibly wayside - you know how they are always enhancing the colors in their catalog! *lol*) because they said it is blue.
i also ordered one named 'guernsey cream' that is described as pale yellow, but it is not. it's basically white.

i took the photo one day this week. the plant is probably 5 years old and i cut them back hard every few years. might have pruned this one a couple of years ago.
i made an arbor of landscape timbers. on each upright member, i rolled some wire fabric into a cylinder shape, approx. 10" dia., and attached to the back of the wood with nails. this is mounted for about 1.5' from the ground surface to within a few feet of the top. the vines will support themselves and grow through the fabric until they reach the top.
