First off, you must have both a male & a female tree in order to produce viable seed. If you have a lone female tree there's a slim chance you'll get any good seed unless there's a male tree mature enough to bloom somewhere reasonably close by.

Click on the link below & take a look at the pics of trachycarpus blooms that a friend of mine recently posted on the Hardy Palm & Subtropical Board. Once the inflorescence opens its pretty easy to distinguish between the male & female. If you shake the male bloom the pollen will easily fall off. If it turns out that you have a female tree, you can attempt to find a male tree blooming & dust your female inflorescence with its pollen.
