How are Hydrangeas doing around here this year?? Most of my H. macrophylla types started leafing out in January when it was warm for so long and then got zapped. Almost all of them died back to the ground... but they were fairly young plants. The only ones I have flower buds on are Endless Summer and Kaleidoscope.

I have 26 varieties now and I had 17 prior to this year. Other than losing a few terminal buds, all of my hydrangeas have done fine this year. Several are close to full bloom now. My Nikko Blues are covered in blooms. Michael Dirr's book on hydrangeas recomends removing the terminal buds on some hydrangeas and he's right on the Nikko's. I pruned off the terminal buds that got bit by the cold and they are showing wonderfully now. Bob Smith
