eggplants and cucumbers curling up

Some of my eggplants and cucumbers are curling up before developing fully - the blossom ends never fill out properly. The part that does fill out tastes fine, though! I asked the regional ACES Horticultural Agent about this, he thought that the extreme heat was the likely cause but was not certain. Is anyoe else having this problem?

I'm in dry, hot central Alabama (Opelika) and haven't had that problem (although I think my eggplant has beetles). I do keep them very well watered, though.

I did, though, start mine very close to the frost date. Maybe they're more developed?

I did have one early-season tomato plant that did the same thing.

That sounds like its possibly a pollination problem
