JR, I mulch my beds where my daffs are just as thickly as anywhere else, and never have had a problem with them emerging through the mulch. I would say 2 or 3 inches is not too much. At least it hasn't presented a problem for me.

I see you are in z8b. My experience with Daff's in this zone is that unless you have the bulbs special for warm weather, they won't last long. Bloom wonderfully the first year, a few blooms the second year, and the years after that all you will get is good healthy leaves. The large daffies (like the King Arthurs) just don't do well in warmer climates.

These are supposed to be for the south and daffs seem to do okay in my area in general. From what I've been reading, I expect to lose them after a few years, but will just add a few new ones each year. Is that what you've done?

I've got daffs in my garden that I planted years ago. They just multiply each year and I get lots of blooms. I also live in zone 8. I'm not just talking about your plain old roadside daff, but hybrids that I've purchased. I have had really good luck with mine, and I hope you do also.

Well JR, I wish I could tell you which ones they are, but honestly, I don't remember. It's been a long time since I planted them, and back then :) I wasn't into labeling my plants. If you will send me your email, I will gladly send photos of some of my daffs. Maybe you can tell which ones they are by the photos.
