ground cherries

Does anyone have experience growing ground cherries? I grew them this year and have been eating their strange fruit for about a month, but in the past week both plants have started to look horrible.

Everything else in that raised bed is growing great, and plants related to the ground cherry (tomatoes, tomatillos) are doing better than I ever imagined.

Am I just at the end of their productive lives, or am I supposed to try to keep them alive in hopes for a better harvest later?
