Anytime - they are not particularly picky.

I second that. Rosey gave me one about a month ago, I planted it, it looks great. Also transplanted some of my own about the same time. They look better now than before I moved them. They tend to be a pretty tough plant. Just keep them watered well when you plant them.

I kid you not - my sister threw some on the ground last year where she wanted them to go - and they are doing great!

I love them, but just be cautious about how fast and how wide they spread in a short amount of time. You'll probably have to thin yours out in a couple of years, so you'll have some to share with friends. And if they are near other perennials, shrubs, etc they will probably overtake them. Cannas, IMHO, are one of those plants I almost wish I'd never planted.

I recently saw a large planter with a dark-leaved canna planted as a tall background plant that was very attractive. I'm going to try this next year. I figure I can make divisions from a potted one a little easier.

Yepper, agree with Elaine. Plant them with care, and
with the knowledge that cammas will spread and spread.
We are constantly thining ours out.
