I am by no means an expert on mulching/composting, etc., but I started using ground oak leaf mulch a couple of years ago throughout my flowerbeds, and I can't say enough good things about it. It breaks down quickly and enriches the soil, all while helping to retain moisture.

Oak leaves are free, readily available every fall, time-tested and approved by Mother Nature!
