Would anybody care to recommend a nice tomato variety that I can try next year? I am looking for a larger sandwich-sized red-when-ripe tomato, preferably with a slightly compact bush. I will probably grow it it a 5 gallon bucket with a cage, so I can move it if needed. I've had lots of cherry-sized tomatoes for the last two summers, but none big enough for sandwiches. I can live on tomato sandwiches in the summer, if I have a juicy ripe tomato to work with!!

There is a great nursery in Jemison, AL called Petals from the Past. They have a website www.petalsfromthepast.com. They have directions on their website but just take I-65 North until you get to exit 219 the Jemison-Thorsby exit. Take a left and go over the overpass of I-65 then take the first left onto County Road 29 and Petals from the Past is a mile down the road. If you do go, I know you will enjoy it.

A lot of people go to Southern Homes out on Vaughn Rd., past Taylor Rd, a ways and on the right. I can say they have some good prices and some way too high. There are times they have a good selection and other times just the norm type of plants. Call them and see when they are having a fall sale.
I highly recommend Petals From the Past too. It would be about a 45 minute drive for you. The prices are good and the selection is great. Every summer, in July is their big sale where pratically everything is 50% off. Call and talk to Jason about exactly what you are looking for if you don't want to make the drive to just look a round. He will tell you if he has it, cost, size, and even if somebody else has it.
Another is Green Thumb Nursery on Troy Hwy. I've been there and was pleased at the corkscrew willow I got. In just glancing around, they have more shrubs and trees than plants.
I'm afraid some of the smaller nurseries have gone out of business that I went to. It really depends on how much to spend, and how far you're willing to drive.
