I'll bet you can find large bags of perlite and it would do a better job. Vermiculite collapses after a very short time, once it gets moist. Perlite maintains its structure, providing your soil with porosity and improved aeration for a very long time.

Just a suggestion.

I purchase both products from GroSouth, a wholesale garden products supplier, with headquarters in Montgomery.
They supply retailers across the south, including some in the Birmingham area, im sure.
Give them a call at 1-(800) 633-8700 or (334) 265-8241 to find a local dealer(s). Some of the larger dealers will probably stock both products, if not, they can order it for you.

I can get you some, the bag is about 3-3 1/2 feet tall...last I looked it was about $11.00 a bag...word of warning people say it causes cancerÂso donÂt breath it inÂ..

Where I work, we get packages with contents packed in vermiculite sometimes.
It does not cause cancer.

However, near where I grew up in Montana, may people have died in Libby, Mont. where they mined vermiculite, and in this particular place asbestos was in the ground along with the vermiculite. Its a huge mess hard to clean up, with people still dying years after being exposed to asbestos that was was disturbed and got into people's lungs. The vermiculite was used for insulation and such, and is not going to be the vermiculite you get from a garden distributor.

This is the only connection I know of between vermiculite and cancer,
so not to worry.

yes this is true.. but I still mix it outside and I never mix it in a closed greenhouse...I have enough wrong with me....lol
