Linda, I'm no expert but i have done the same thing for a number of years now-I keep them in my garage attached to the house. I maybe water them just a little once or twice all winter. I think they go into dormant mode, and probably do just as good with no water. When it warms up in spring they don't miss a beat when i put them outside. I've got all mine from Terry, Nelson, and Susan
ever the last several years.

I leave mine in the ground outside, mulched with leaves. Gageana "California", red stem, purple stem, cucullata, lime aid, yellow splash, illustris and big dipper have survived several winters. I lost Black Runner, but I think that was because I transplanted it in the fall. The only one I bring indoors is Frydek and I keep the soil barely moist all winter.Susan.

I also leave some like big dipper in the ground outside--the difference I see is that the ones stored inside just get bigger during the season, having a head start without dying down completely.

Thanks for the answers. I'm further North than y'all and lost Lime Zinger, Purple stem and Thai Giant in the shed last year. I'll see what I get to come back this spring. Linda
