My folks aren't too far away from you, down in Rensselaerville, and grew shallot from seed last year. They were quite happy with the results. I think Mom started them at the same time as her onion seeds. They are out shopping (probably up in Albany) so I'll see if I can't get a more specific date in case you don't start your own onions. Ok, she says start them mid March. If you are down off the plateau and in the river valley, you might have a week or two head start on them, though. Then look to put them out 4-6 weeks later. Cheers!

No, I don't grow onions, unfortunately I'm a city gardener with *very* little room (only room for 2 raised beds) so I have to be very picky about what I plant. Thank you for the response; I appreciate it.
