I wonder, did you put your seedlings out? I always planted seedings in early April when I lived in PA. I had better luck (more survivors) with sets. I would like to know how your seedlings do.

I actually just put them in the ground this weekend- I am worried that it was too cold, but they were getting to big to wait. They seem okay- not super happy, but I'll let you know if they survive. What do you mean by sets?

Sets are very small bulbs that can be planted as soon as the ground dries out enough to be workable. Like right now in zone 5. You can find them in any garden center or farm supply place, either white, red or yellow. I plant them about an inch apart and pull alternate ones for green onions as soon as they are big enough to use. The rest will turn into regular onions and can be pulled during the summer or stored for winter use.

If they have been properly hardened off, now is the time.

Some seem to have died, but some seem to be okay. They look like they are taking a while to get settled. How long, in the future, should I put them outside for them to adjust before I transplant them?
