Did you make the rose water?????

Jeri

Jeri,
Since I discovered rose water at the local Oriental Grocery, I've wanted to try to make it. But I haven't had good bloom production on my damasks for the past two years.
Midsummer roses ...well, would you like some thrips with your rose water? Yuck.
And our falls have been hideously dry for three years now.

*** UH, NO thanks!

Actually, I was served a dessert of peach slices steamed in rose water at a restaurant in France (Alain Chapel to be precise). My husband and I have traveled a good deal and eaten at lots of restaurants but I still remember this one dessert very well. It was very delicate and yet the rose fragrance came through quite noticeably. Also unusual for me as I am not used to having anything garden flower-related in my food.:-)

I never much considered roses in my food either, but the peaches and rosewater sounds like it might be good.
I suppose if they were in something that blended well, like maybe mint-rose hip jelly with lamb, or a rosewater bbq sauce, but i don't think i could handle a heavy rose flavor in a light food.

It was not too heavy - it was like eating peaches and smelling roses at the same time. In fact they were more scented peaches than flavored peaches :-).

a freind gave me a delicacy from India,an entire quart of rose petal conserves. I've been sweetening my black tea with it, and adding milk. It is yummiferous.
