I am new to the garlic world and did not get garlic planted last fall but a friend gave me a bunch of her plants that are about 1" tall with established root systems. (Zone 4). She said just to plant them in bunches and they would grow but would be thin (not bulbs). I am thinking they should be separated so that they have room to grow?? Has anybody ever tried transplanting garlic? If it doesn't work this year - should I just leave them in and hope for the best for next year? Thanks in advance!
