Where is the tree planted how much sun? Look at environmental vactors. Be for insect or disease to dry or to wet. Dogwoods like a Eastern exposure.

its a planting .. water.. or stock issue [bad ball and burlap]....

dig a small hole with a hand trowel.. 3 to 6 inches deep.. INTO the root mass planted .. AND FIND OUT IF THERE IS WATER AT DEPTH ...

watering is an art.. not a science.. there is no way for anyone.. but you ... to determine if you are giving it enough water or TOO MUCH .. spraying the surface alone.. never works ...

Planted a 8 ft dogwood in early May it was doing so good until I got back from camping and we had over 100 degree weather. I watered it for two days it drank it up. Maybe I watered to much now the leaves are scorched and dry falling off. Help

OP answered his own question. Dogwoods don't like a lot of heat. No matter how much water you give them, they can't take extreme heat in the sun.
