Here in zone 5b I planted Picador shallots in early November. They had sprouted by the time the snow had melted about a month ago.

Iam in zone 5 Southern New hampshire, my fall planted shallots just emerged last weekend, at least those that are left, that didnt get dug up and moved by squirrels last fall! Some of my neighbors iam sure will be enjoying the fruits of my labor as shallots start sprouting all over their yards! LOL!

Hooray. I guess they just needed a few more days. The first 2 started coming up yesterday. It was a first time plant last fall...so you never know I guess.

I have very spotty success with fall-planted shallots. Garlic and potato onions overwinter great, but many of the shallots rot. The shallots I grow are in no mood for sprouting in the fall anyway, but they get interested in late spring. I also pick up a few shallots at the organi-grocery that show root bulges around their bases and plant those in spring, and grow a few hybrids from seed (some years more than others). Shallots are our best storage onion, they get us through many late winter meals. I'm down to my last two...
