Cutting the greens will hurt your overall bulb size. The best time to dig up the garlic is when the bottom 1/3-1/2 of the leaves have turned brown. Here in norther Michigan that is mid to late July.

i agree. stop cutting the greens. i dig mine about 7/24 to 7/28, different varieties are ready at different times but they all are dug within 10 days from start to finish for harvesting.

I have a question kind of related to this (next step of sorts). I received some Elephant Garlic bulbs (between 1 cm and 1 inch in diameter) at a local plant swap. I put them in their soil mix a few hours after I got home. Since they were yanked for the swap, they seem to already be dying off/browning. Should I just leave them in the pot until Fall or take them out, store them, then replant in Fall? Thanks - Steve
