Not sure what I'm supposed to be seeing here...

Instead of one garlic sprout, he has several in a cluster. That looks like the area I planted in tomatoes a couple of days ago, except it is bermuda grass instead of garlic :(

Well, number one: you planted garlic in wrong time. They should've been planted Oct-Nov .

Number two: If you are seeing a clump of them coming up, did you plant the whole garlic, instead of just a cloveper location ?

Well, number one: It was planted last fall....not sure where you get that it wasn't.

And as for number 2, yeah that's what happened. A whole head of garlic must have been left behind...purely accidental. Didn't even notice it was missing! I was however able to dig up the whole sprouted head and separate every single one and they are growing strong now 2 weeks later, so that's a huge plus.

Anyhoo, I just thought it was funny, and thought I would share :)

Ok. I see you are in zone 4, way up north. But further down south(zones 7, 8) when garlic is planted in fall (OCT -NOV) it grows a top, just like winter wheat and stay kind of dormant in the winter and around the last frost time , the following year, it resumes growth and mature around early June. But your condition might be different . I am not an expert on this.

where I am mine did not shoot out of the ground by the time the ground froze and out of about 150 cloves only 2 didn't sprout.

I had something similar, I some how missed two cloves together and they both sprout. What did you do with the clump? Are you letting it grow and see what happens at harvest?

Funny you should ask...a neighbor of mine had a huge garlic crop failure, so I offered up that clump to him. We dug them up, carefully separated, and replanted them in his garden, and they are doing great :)

Sorry to hear about the crop failure for your neighbour, but happy that you were able to put those garlic to great use!
