sprouticide

so last night we had a thunderstorm...

one lone cup of Amaranth, in its despair, chose that fateful night to leap from the table on our deck to the ground far below.

Why, oh why, did I not know the depths of its despair?

Its brother, the other cup of amaranth, now stands alone on the table of sprouted sprouts...

take care of your sproutcups.

awww.... that stinks. but the way you described it made me laugh. at least you sowed 2 cups... :)

    Hi kterlep,
I would make sure to do a full investigation.
Does the brother have an alibi for that fateful night?
    Did they get along?
    Was there a girlcup involved?

Since there wasn't a note don't chalk it up as sprouticide yet, it could have been mudder.

Brandy, oh Brandy... Such a wonderful imagination. Thanks for a morning chuckle! :O)

Hold it! The brother may be innocent of the crime and implicated solely on the basis of proximity. While it's a plausible assumption the brother is the likely culprit, what about others who may have had a deep-seated aversion to amaranth?
    Could there be others involved?
    Was it gang-of-buddleia or lupine-related?
It pays to take a 360-degree look around the garden in these situations. That amaranth may have had other enemies not immediately suspect which were just assuming that mild-plant facade of innocence while hiding their deep-rooted resentment of amaranth's display.
No, jumping to conclusions in these situations often clouds the judgment and throws up a screen of complacency that precludes rational deduction and analytical thinking.

I bet there was a squirrel involved. They're always up to no good.

Ha! We have no squirrels. We have TWO Weimaraners.

Yesterday, I caught a glimpse of my gumpiest weim chasing a robin across the yard...she nearly caught him... I could just hear her...
"Um, xcuse me, Mr. Robin. Aktually, I just want to ax ya sumpin"
    and him!
"Robin to Base! Robin to Base! Mayday! Mayday!"

So, yeah, if you don't want squirrels, just get two weimaraners. Lol. They also catch bunnies. :(

Do they catch Bambi and friends? Loved kterlep's posting! LOL!

hahaha, brandymulvaine said "chalk it up" and I had a mental picture of your sprouts outlined in chalk on the pavement. Everyone here at work thinks I'm nuts because I'm sitting here by myself, giggling.

Please take Bambi, Thumper and their squirrel friends from my house! I used to think it was slugs eating my babies, but NOOO - it was the wildlife!

    hahahaha!

My condolences. May the remaining Amaranth live a full and happy life in spite of this tragedy.

Should we send flowers or make a seed donation to wintersowing.org? Will the deceased be laid to rest in the compost? Oh, so many questions...

You must assume innocence until proven guilty. Does the brother need a lawyer?

    Thanks for good laught!

OMG, we all must be mad as a hatter!!!

He's not dead, he's only pining. Perfectly healthy amaranth..from the fjords, dont'cha know.

Ummm..I put his body back in the cup, and he's come out of the coma! (even though I hardly scooped up any dirt to go with it)

    Lol!

I am glad he has been revived.
    My cups are being stalked.
Mr. Wind has been trying to get a clear shot at them all day.
And I heard that Mr. Frost is going to sneeek in the back door sometime tonight.
I tried to rig up cover for them but I think Mr. Wind is going to take it out too.

So, it wasn't the butler in the solarium with the candlestick after all? I could've sworn...
Good job my dear Watson! Back in the cup you go old boy! There's a good fella now. Always knew you had it in you but there was a moment I thought you'd cocked up your toes for good and all. Happy to hear you've made a full recovery and are back on the road to health.
Let us know how you do as the season goes on, won't you?
