I think it has to do with temperatures - some seed likes consistent warmer temperatures in order to germinate, you will prolly get more germination as the temps warm up, particularly nighttime temps.

I was wondering about this too Linda. I guess a lot of things come into play. Inconsistent seed depth, moisture variance within the jug, and variant temps. And you know, if you look at germination tables, they give a 15 day variance in some cases. You could have a seed germ. in a jug and 15 days later all the rest?

I'm a newbie, so this is all pretty new to me too, but I have had that happen and I think it's got to be the seeds and their preferences. If not I just don't know what it is! I sowed delphinium in the same flat as echniacea, and while only a dozen delphinium have sprouted, I have double or more on the side of the same flat that is echinacea, and as a matter of fact the echinacea are already beginning to put out their true leaves. Wierd?! LOL* I don't get it!
