Hello. I love garlic, and I tried growing grocery market garlic last year but they all vanished.

I was shallot crazy last fall and didn't plant a single garlic clove.

In March I discovered the garlic bulbil, a word my tongue cannot contort to pronounce properly.

I thought bulbils would be a great way for me to start a couple of varieties of hardnecks without breaking the bank.

The directions I found that I settled on for the first year planting are:

1. Plant them in spring when the soil is workable.
2 Take them out and cure them when full bulbs are done in the summer
3. Plant them again in the fall... etc

Question 1:
Is there any benefit to leaving them in the ground instead of removing them and planting them again? It's tempting.

Question 2:
I read that bulbil unlike seed will not cross polinate with other garlic and are true to the parent but will mutate based on other variables. Is this true?

And I guess I wanted to share that right now out of 25 bulbils planted in early April I am only seeing about 5 or 6 in May... Another patch with another 25 has none... Are bulbils finicky or slow to wake? Hoping to see more baby garlic leaves sprout soon.
