Allium flower head size

I planted Allium Beau Regard and Globemaster in Autumn 2004. These are my first Alliums and so I'm not sure what to expect as far as flower size.

They have come up fine and have perfect shaped full flowers, but they are only about 6" diameter. I thought they were supposed to reach 8-10".

Do the flower heads get larger in subsequent years?

Do you leave the bulbs in the ground after flowering or are they left in permanently?

My Globemaster has reached 7" tops in diameter.
I just leave my bulbs in the ground year round.

Last year my largest Globemasters were about 7", this year, they are about 4". They have multiplied, though. The new ones planted last fall are only about 6". I leave mine in the ground year round.

If you are leaving the bulbs in the ground, the alliums get crowed as they multiply - just like the case of tulips.

Furthermore Alliums do not like moisture. Therefore I dug up mine 1 month after they are deadheaded.

Mine did get smaller after the first year but there were multiples. Every year I think I'll dig them up and divide them but I never have.
