Yep the black sunflower prices have sky rocketed. My bird friends will get smaller helpings and maybe won't waste so much. You know that seed is from last year and the farmer sure didn't get that much for his product. Who is trying to gouge us?

The trucking companies have to raise their rates with their fuel being over $4 a gal. Where will it end?????

If I let some of my BOS volunteers grow, will I get a harvest good enough for the winter? How many would it take? Think the critters would get them before the fall? Could I just leave them on the flower all winter, or would the seeds be gone too quickly without me rationing it? Has anyone done raised their own BOS?

Did I ask enough questions?

Yep. I grow lots of BOSS, much to the delight of my feathered friends.

However, because of the aforementioned price of seeds, I now cater to mostly hummingbirds and thistle eating birds. Their seed lasts longer. I'm also trying to attract purple martins who hunt for their own food.

I bought some Winterberry bushes and also am growing flowers like Coneflower, BES, and cosmos that birds like to eat.

Hopefully, I will no longer have to buy food for backyard birds. :)

On my way home from work, I stopped at my local Dollar Tree. They have seeds for 10 cents a pack. Well, I loaded up on the corn and the sunflower seeds. Might be a good idea to do while they are still that cheap.

Now to find more Dollar Trees that I did not get to yet...
