I don't know about western NY but here in the Hudson Valley I'm just now seeing scapes so I'd say you're about due. After that, you have about a month or so depending on variety so figure on a harvest sometime in July.

Timing may depend on variety, too. A Delaware County gardener has scapes on hers as well.

Is your garlic hardneck or softneck? Softneck garlic doesn't produce scapes, I think.

I have both hardnecks and softnecks growing.
