This is the right time for transplanting perennials. Your Columbines should do fine if you were careful with the roots and watered them in good. They will bloom too. I'm not sure on the lifetime of columbines, but I have some that are five years old. Keep the faith, and they will bloom.

Columbines are very tough plants for me. I have moved them before, during, and after bloom with no problems.

very good to know. I planted three purples right next to each other. As soon as they're done blooming, I'm gonna move two of them. I need the space for something else, not sure what, but something.

columbine always very problematic to move for me, no matter when. Big chunk of soil and lots of water but other than that it would be a problem... just start more seeds...

I've never had a problem moving them altho' I try to pick a cool, cloudy day for it. I've got 30 WS jugs of 7 or 8 different varieties--just love columbine. I hope they sprout and grow. I'm looking forward to planting them in groups for the WOW factor when they bloom. They're tough--something ate all the leaves off my white one last year and it still bloomed.

I'm glad you asked this, I did the same thing a few weeks ago, and kept thinking, "what did I do?" I'll just keep watering and expect the best.

We had a good dose of rain last night and they are looking strong so far.

Keep in mind columbines are reseeders, so I'm sure even if you transplant some elsewhere, there will be more seeds scattered in same flower bed for you to have later. They are an easy flower to grow.
