Goodness, they sure are achin' to get out! But I wouldn't worry about it. If you would like to perform some surgery and start new plants though, go for it!

Just bought a nice H & C plant with lots of babies. What kind of soil to plant them in. Planned on about a 5-6 inch deep bowl type pot but not sure about planting mix!

Good drainage and not too rich soil, but really they will grow in anything as long as it has good drainage. Half potting soil and half sand would be a good mix.

You don't even necessarily need to plant them if you pull them apart now! These will sit in a un-heated shed out of the soil just fine until spring if need be :D

Can they stay outside in the pots over the winter?

Unless you live on the north pole they will be fine in pots over the winter. They might even make it at the north pole. Give them good drainage.
