Since Apr. 13th

Mammoth Sunflower

Blue Salvia (no idea what type....bonus in trade)

Scabiosa atropurpurea

Bunny Tail Grass

Cosmic Orange Cosmo

Impatiens mix

Coreopsis tinctoria

Floss Flower 'Leilani Blue'

Chinese Forget-me-Not

I'll have to pot up any annual Salvia this year and plant out a little bigger. Otherwise the earwigs enjoy the tender babies too much :(

Paula...it should bloom a little for you this year too :D
I've been holding off on the Osteospermum until the weather straightens out.
Did I get the Burgundy Verbena from you? I normally note the traders in my database but slipped up on these LOL! They would have came with Bronze Fennel, some Salvia and Bronze Fennel...was that you?

Good for you! I think orange cosmos would be beautiful.

I also had some cosmo sprouts ... Cosmo Seashells. It looks like one Osteospernum Glistening White sprout is up as well. (Although I read somewhere true osteopernums don't germinate from seeds and Thompson and Morgan labeled them wrong.)

Read the 3rd paragraph under description of this patented Osteospurmum cultivar and how it was created....from seed. To maintain the cultivar it is propagated vegetatively :D

Not all Osteospermum are sterile or none of the hybrids ever would have been made :D

Interesting, but sounds a little complicated. I don't think I can pull that off at home ;)

It's probably hard to know since there are so many cultivars, but do you think anything will come from seeds I save from these flowers?

I am getting so impatient. This is my first year and tried w/s late into the season. I put 12 2 liters out on 3/28 and 12 more on 3/31 and 6 more 5/6. I have only seen 6 sprout. In the six sprouts its only one or two. Used Hyponex and don't like it. Too much junk in it. I do have them in sun but the covers are off the 2 liters. They get some dappered shade in the afternoons. The jugs do have some moisture. Therefore, I am guessing the soil is still damp. I am getting so nervous that nothing is going to sprout. I hate this waiting game. Just imagine what a basket case I would be if I had started in January or have 100+ like most of u. I guess time will tell. I will just have to wait and hope I haven't done it wrong.

I've heard others say Hyponex is really bad. I've never used it, so I don't know. I think others have had germination with it, but lower than with other soils. Below is a link to an earlier thread on this topic. I imagine you'll get more sprouts from your containers. I'm still waiting on a lot of perennials ... don't know if something went wrong or if they're just gonna be later than annuals. It might not hurt to do a few more containers or annuals with higher quality soil as a backup plan though.

I don't know Mo_girl. I would imagine that almost all of the Osteopspermum in this country are sterile hybrid species and that the growers of new cultivars use some of the nicer seed producers to cross with others and on and on...probably what we get. The only way to know is to go for it and see what happens :D

BTW I LOVED those Cosmic Orange Cosmo and I've never really liked orange until these. I posted these pics for you last night in my reply, but don't know what happened...strange.

They look yellow but really are orange....it's a camera phone and the sun was really shining :D

I also liked the dwarf cosmos (sold as "carpet mix). They were orange, gold, and yellow, and they reseeded and those bloomed last year, too.

Vera, what beautiful pictures! That orange cosmo is really attractive. I like the orange next to the silvery foliage ... compliments nicely.

Karen, nice to know there's a dwarf variety of cosmos. This is my first year to grow them, but I've heard they can get tall and topple over.

If I get any seeds from osteospernum, I will give it a shot and see what grows, if anything.

Now I'm itching to plant a bunch of stuff out, but not sure if the last few that have germinated are quite hardy enough to plant out. I REALLY need to plant out a wildflower mix. A few of the sprouts are poking out the top hole of the milk jug :) (The rest of my sprouts aren't near that big yet.)

I received orange cosmos seeds and they've been the next to last to sprout. I can't wait to see them bloom after seeing them in your pictures.

The last, which I saw today were a couple seedlings of giant imperial larkspur.

Yea, I checked today, and have quite a few more germinated! It's been pretty chilly the last couple days too ... not freezing though. Some only have one or two sprouts:

    Hyssop
    Mexican Hat Flower
    Cleome Rose Queen
    Paul Robeson Tomato
    Tiger Tom Cherry Tomato
    Amaranthus Fat Spike

I also have a couple mystery sprouts in one of my containers of perennials I dumped over. One could be lavender, if I am remembering correctly what they look like that early on.

Tonight, I'm gonna have some tea made with some leaves from my monarda fistulosa and lavender from last year's WSing. It was my only one (monarda), so I'm so glad it survived the winter. This combination is really relaxing before bedtime.
