Went to my favorite garden center and they tell me no more bagged composted cow manure until next spring. Though they have signs up all over saying to plant in fall. Ditto at second best garden center. Finally gave up and went to Home Depot - they had it but were running out fast so I got six bags which ought to get the garlic planted and maybe a couple of other things.

In my sandy soil, no added compost means very small, stingy garlic heads. I've got the trench dug, now if it will stop raining, I might just get it planted.
